Minding Design.

this book inspired this community. i am a librarian and i had to shelve this book. i am left wondering if the person that designed the cover actually paid for the design they threw together in fifteen minutes? or maybe they did their own design. who needs graphic designers these days when you can check out a book and graphic design professionally in fifteen minutes?

how could anyone get away with using so blatantly obvious photoshop filters? lensflare. outerglow. clouds... and my favorite some variation of a felt filter on the truck. only one person i know of could get away with using felt.

the fonts? horrible. something of the comic sans base. fonts like comic sans should be flogged and then burned.

i counted three fonts on the entire outer book cover. they must think the more fonts you add, the more design you have.

nothing could save this book design, nothing. maybe you could take all the elements and put it into adobe illustrator.. maybe.. but definately fire the designer, make a new design.

dang, I dont know much about graphic design ect but DANG thats bad.

I think I may join this community just incase a few of my designs come up :P
bad design is easy to spot. it makes your eyeballs burn. :) you don't have to be an official graphic designer to spot it.. and in fact sometimes it is better to have a mix of designers and nondesigners to discover just how worthless a design really is in its presentation.

thanks for joining.

Oh that's a nice high school photoshop project!

Oh wait you mean this is a real book and from a professional designer!?

(Ok I'll turn the sarcasm faucet off now)

After this comment, I will official join your community... I like this community idea... it gives good perspective (sp? I'm an artist not an author) for designers and art goers on what is good great and just not right! Cudos for community development...
much thanks. we all hope that my design doens't end up on this page, but alas in the years i have had designs of bad eye burnings throughout the years.... i still have yet to compare to the above mentioned design in utter eye bleedingness.
ramble ramble.
what i mean to say is ...

THanks for joining!
It looks to me like Lucida but still - icky! This reminds me of another bad book cover which I should post. Time for me to join :D
For what it's worth, the font is Marker Felt.

Though it's been available for PCs for a while, it's bundled with Mac OS.

Please don't tell me that was designed by a Mac person...
and coming up next...

Comic Sans!
